Dickens of a Christmas

SunTrust Dickens of a Christmas is a free street festival full of fun for the whole family on the Roanoke City Market that takes place the first three Friday nights in December from 6:00-10:00 PM except on December 5th when the festivities begin at 5:30 PM. Admission is free. This festival includes a McDonald's Kids' Zone on Wall Street, Horse-drawn Carriage Rides, Christmas Carolers, Strolling St. Nicholas, Santa's Workshop at Center in the Square Atruim, Photos with Santa, Chestnut Roasting, Entertainment including jugglers, sword swallower, street actors, balloon Dude, silt walkers, magicians, face painters, carolers or Christmas Past, ballet, dance, street actors, fireeaters, a community stage with live entertainment and much more. The Laser Light Show presented by Gentry, Locke, Rakes & Moore will take place on Salem Avenue. December 5th-City of Roanoke's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

The 2014 SunTrust Dickens of a Christmas kicks off in downtown Roanoke starting at 5:30 PM on FridayDecember 5th. The first event is the City of Roanoke's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Wells Fargo PlazaWSLS Channel 10 will countdown to the tree lighting starting at 5:30 PM with the actual lighting at 6:15 PM. The festivities will continue into the night until 10pm including live stage and street performances! Other activities taking place throughout the night in the Historic Market area include strolling St. Nicholas, carriage rides, street actors, chestnut roasting, live carolers of Christmas Past, a magician, a face painter, a juggler, Balloon Dude, photos with Santa, a living nativity scene on Campbell Avenue, McDonald's Kid's Zone on Wall Street, Santa's Workshop in Center in the Square Atrium presented by SunTrust and more! Once again this year the Laser Light Show will be on Salem Avenue presented by Gentry, Locke, Rakes and Moore. December 12th-Haley Toyota's City of Roanoke Christmas Parade

The 2014 SunTrust Dickens of a Christmas continues in downtown Roanoke starting at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 13th. The main event is Haley Toyota's City of Roanoke's Christmas Parade starting at 6:30 PM. The parade route begins at the corner of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street (Elmwood Park) and continues north on Jefferson Street to Campbell Avenue, then east on Campbell to Market Street. The Q99 Cafe' will be set up from 5:30-10:00 PM on Wall Street with Q-Bear. Come by and register to win a Christmas Feast that includes a mini-fridge stuffed with food. The festivities will continue into the night until 10PM including live stage and street performances! Other activities taking place throughout the night in the Historic Market area include strolling St. Nicholas, carriage rides, street actors, chestnut roasting, stilt walking, a fire eater, a sword swallower, a magician, a face painter, juggler and Balloon Dude, photos with Santa, a living nativity scene on Campbell Avenue, McDonald's Kid Zone, Santa's Workshop presented by SunTrust at Center in the Square Atruim and more! December 19th-SPCA Pet Costume Contest

SunTrust Dickens of a Christmas' final night is Friday, December 19th beginning at 6:00 PM. The SPCA of the Roanoke Valley Pet Costume Contest will begin at 6:30 PM with registration starting at 6:00 PM on Salem Avenue. All judging and awarding of prizes will occur in Market Square. Dick Daniels and David Page will host the SPCA's Pet Costume Contest with Q-Bear. The festivities will continue into the night until 10:00 PM including live stage and street performances, activities in the Historic Market area, carriage rides, live carolers, magicians, fire eaters, sword swallowers, photos with Santa, living nativity scene and more. Jingle Bell Run/Walk

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is a Saturday, December 13th in downtown Roanoke from 9:00-11:00 AM. Get in the spirit this holiday season by being a part of the largest holiday 5K series in which thousands of runners and walkers hit the pavement, pathway and parks to fight arthritisArthritis is the nation's most common cause of disability. This Run/Walk is a fun way to kick off the Holidays by wearing holiday themed costumes, tieing jingle bells on your shoelaces and running or walking a 5k route with team members to celebrate the season. Registration opens in downtown Roanoke at 7:30 AM and the 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk begins at 9:00 AM with post event celebrations starting at 10:00 AM. Be there with bells on SaturdayDecember 13th! Breakfast with Santa

Share the magic of Christmas with your children while they eat breakfast with Santa Claus on Saturday, December 6th from 9;00 AM to 11:00 AM. Tickets may be purchased at the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber Office or the Salem Parks & Recreation Office.

 

The 2014 Gingerbread Festival

2014 Gingerbread Festival is Saturday, December 6th on Longwood Park on East Main Street in Salem from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM. The festival will feature activities that include a Gingerbread House Competition, live holiday entertainment on the stage, arts & craft vendors, food vendors, local business displays, children's craft activities, face painting and a bonfire with marshmallows for roasting. The Gingerbread Festival is a free event with free parking. Kids of all ages are welcome to sing along, enjoy hot chocolate and tour the beautiful Gingerbread houses located at the Carriage House in Longwood Park. This is a fundraiser for the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce Foundation's scholarship program and the Carriage House Restoration Fund. Ye Olde Salem Christmas



Ye Olde Salem Christmas is SaturdayDecember 6th on Main Street in Salem from 11:00 AM-4:00 PM. This festival includes merchant open houses, hot cider and roasted chestnuts all in downtown Salem. There will be activities at the Salem Library that include photos with Santa (bring your camera), Story time with Mrs.Clauschildren's activities and mail letters to Santa. The Salem Farmer's Market will have market vendors with crafts, wreaths, baked goods, carriage rides, Model-T Car rides around town and to the Gingerbread Festival at Longwood Park and Breakfast with Santa.Ye Olde Salem Christmas is sponsored by the Salem Parks & Recreation-Special Events. Holiday Traditions

Holiday Traditions is a signature event in downtown Lynchburg brought to you by Lynch's Landing and take place the first three Saturdays in December (December 6th, December 13th and December 20th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Admission is free. This street festival includes photos with The Grinch at The Galleria on Main Street, free carrriage rides (10AM-1PM from 10th & Main and the Community Market), Mistletoe Market at the Community Market will be open from 7AM-4PM. The Mistletoe Market includes Heritage Crafter's Gallery that offers an array of handcrafted items, Santa & Mrs.Claus at the Market (10A-1PM) and seasonal greenery.
