Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship

In conjunction with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Q99 offer a scholarship up to $500 per year. The Scholarship opportunity is open to minority high school seniors or current college students who are pursuing study in the field of Broadcasting, Broadcast Journalism or Communications.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit and financial need.

Applications are available at Q99, 3934 Electric Road, Roanoke and can be picked up weekdays from 8:30am to 5pm or by sending a self -addressed stamped envelope to:

2009 Minority Broadcasting Scholarship Winners

We would like to congratulate Tea Hadzic and Malcolm Jones, 2009 winners of the K92/Q99/VIBE100/Star Country/WFIR/Omega Psi Phi Minority Broadcasting Scholarship.

 

Tea Hadzic

Tea Hadzic is entering her junior year at George Mason University, where she is pursuing a Communication major.  She has served as a campus orientation leader for new students, transfer students, and their families and as a minority mentor on campus.  She is helping create a Fashion Society on campus to serve students with an interest in this area.  Tea is originally from Bosnia and arrived in the U.S. as girl who spoke no English.  She is a 2007 graduate of William Fleming High School in Roanoke, where her activities included Senior Yearbook Staff Editor, Literary Magazine Editor and Video Lab Reporter for the high school television broadcasts.

 

Malcolm Jones

Malcolm Jones is entering his sophomore year at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he is a Mass Communications major pursuing a concentration in Public Relations.  Malcolm serves as Public Relations Coordinator for the EDGE College Ministry at VCU, promoting events and activities along with helping plan and produce performances and gatherings.  Malcolm is a 2008 graduate of William Fleming High School in Roanoke.  While in high school, he was a member of the yearbook staff and performed community service through the Key Club.  He also contributed to the production of "The 411", a monthly information program for Roanoke City Schools.
